Five Nights at Freddy's 4 (FNAF 4) is the fourth main installment in Scott Cawthon's legendary survival horror series. Unlike the previous games, which take place inside Freddy Fazbear's Pizza, this chapter moves the horror into a child's bedroom. Armed with nothing but a flashlight and your hearing, you must survive from 12 AM to 6 AM while terrifying Nightmare animatronics attempt to enter your room from every direction.

In Five Nights at Freddy’s 4, your bedroom serves as the only safe place, but it quickly becomes a nightmare. Instead of sitting inside a security office, you'll constantly move between:
- The left hallway
- The right hallway
- The closet
- The bed behind you
Each location must be monitored carefully. Ignoring any entrance for too long gives Nightmare animatronics an opportunity to attack.
Listen Before You Look
The biggest gameplay change in Five Nights at Freddy's 4 is its reliance on sound.
Before shining your flashlight down either hallway, you must stop and listen for breathing. If you hear soft breathing outside the door, immediately close it and wait. Flashing your light while an animatronic is already standing there usually results in an instant jumpscare.
Watch the Closet and the Bed
Nightmare Foxy slowly hides inside the bedroom closet. Checking the closet regularly with your flashlight prevents him from becoming a greater threat.
Meanwhile, tiny creatures known as Freddles gather on the bed behind you. If too many appear, Nightmare Freddy emerges and attacks. Frequently flashing the bed keeps them under control throughout the night.
Survive Increasingly Difficult Nights
Every completed night introduces faster enemy behavior and less room for mistakes.
After finishing the main story, players unlock additional challenges, including:
- Night 6
- Nightmare Mode (Night 7)
- 20/20/20/20 Challenge (Night 8)
These extra modes significantly increase the difficulty by making every Nightmare animatronic more aggressive, offering some of the toughest survival challenges in the entire FNAF’s series.

- Mouse – Look around the room.
- Left Mouse Button – Use the flashlight and interact with doors, closet, and bed.
- Hold Left Mouse Button – Close doors when necessary.
- Move the cursor – Turn toward different areas of the bedroom.
